Certifying Body In Development

In South Dakota, there is no formal Community Health Worker (CHW) certification process mandated by the state. However, Voluntary certification for Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Community Health Representatives (CHRs) in South Dakota is designed to streamline Medicaid reimbursement, validate professional qualifications, and support workforce integration into care teams. The certification, overseen by the Community Health Workers Collaborative of South Dakota, ensures compliance with educational and background check standards.CHWs are encouraged to pursue training and professional development to enhance their competencies and service delivery.

The NCHW™ Registry recognizes the importance of these professional development opportunities and aims to connect South Dakota CHWs with premier training options.

We encourage CHWs in South Dakota to connect with the Community Health Worker Collaborative of South Dakota.

This collaborative provides valuable support, resources, and networking opportunities for CHWs throughout the state. Membership in the association can be a significant resource for professional development and staying updated on the certification process.

Medicaid Reimbursement

From January 1, 2023, certified CHWs are recognized by South Dakota Medicaid for service reimbursement. The certification process includes submitting an application, which can be managed online. For any issues with the process, the Collaborative provides contact support.
